Strategy for Complex Systems – applying Network Centric thinking to complex challenges.

November 12 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Many strategic challenges are difficult not because the organisation lacks a plan, but because outcomes depend on multiple stakeholders, changing conditions, uncertainty and forces beyond direct control.

This practical three-hour Executive Masterclass introduces the Network Centric approach to Strategy for Complex Systems. Participants will explore five practical lenses – patterns, change, uncertainty, networks and emergence – to better understand what is shaping a complex challenge and where strategic action can make the greatest difference.

The session combines expert input, practical frameworks, discussion and facilitated application to real organisational challenges.

What You’ll Learn

You will learn how to:

  • recognise when a strategic challenge is genuinely complex;
  • identify recurring patterns and the conditions that keep producing them;
  • understand what is changing and where things may be heading;
  • identify the assumptions and uncertainties that matter most;
  • see who and what really influences the outcome;
  • distinguish what you can control, influence or must adapt to;
  • identify practical strategic moves and points of leverage;
  • adapt strategy as conditions, stakeholders and evidence change.

Participants will apply the Network Centric Strategy Canvas to a real strategic challenge and leave with a clearer view of the system and priority actions to take forward.

Who Should Attend

This masterclass is designed for:

  • executives and senior leaders;
  • strategy and transformation leaders;
  • program and project leaders;
  • policy and public-sector leaders;
  • leaders responsible for cross-organisational initiatives;
  • professionals working in complex stakeholder environments;
  • anyone responsible for outcomes that cannot be achieved through organisational authority alone.

It is particularly relevant to leaders working across government, health and human services, energy, infrastructure, sustainability, universities and research, technology, industry bodies and social-purpose organisations.

Why Attend

Traditional strategy works well when the organisation controls most of the resources, decisions and implementation required to achieve the outcome. Many of today’s most important strategic challenges do not work that way. Success increasingly depends on understanding the wider environment, recognising how stakeholders and conditions are changing, identifying where influence sits and adapting as the situation evolves.

This masterclass will help you move beyond asking “What should our organisation do?” to asking:

What outcome are we trying to achieve, what is really shaping it, and where can we make the greatest difference?

You will leave with a practical framework for navigating complexity, making better strategic decisions and focusing effort where it is most likely to improve the outcome.

Understand the system. Activate the network. Shape better outcomes.
